Evaluating for Excellence and How do You Know . . .
Note that How Do You Know . . . is a prior version. Content very similar but Evaluatinghas one more section on Bible.
This book is unlike any I have seen. As a credentialed teacher, I thought I'd seen it all. I only wish I'd seen THIS before teaching! It tells you how to diagnose and review your children's academic and physical education needs, as well as character qualities. With that information, it then helps you to prepare their individualized curriculum. With sample forms, you can easily determine and inventory your student's strengths and weaknesses. There is also a section for Special Education children (the book helps you set up an IEP--Individualized Education Program, which is universally known throughout public education, and should be sufficient for most districts, if necessary). This book also helps you set up portfolios (which some districts require). Numerous forms are included, making this a welcome addition to any home school library. Our state just dropped the testing mandate. I imagine hey are now going to demand portfolios--and the forms in this book should help fill the bill (they look very professional). The author has some great ideas in her book--things that I, as a 27-year veteran of teaching (government schools) never thought of. VS - Nevada "Are we doing enough? Am I pushing my children too hard? What should I expect my child to be able to do? Teresa Moon shows us how to answer these questions with very specific guidelines and tools. I wish I'd had this book when we started home schooling!" Cathy Duffy, author of Christian Home Educators' Curriculum Manuals "Finally! A book to help homeschooling parents evaluate their students' progress. Teresa has filled a void that has long existed in the homeschool community. How often parents, especially those new to home education, will ask, 'How will I know what grade to give my student's essay?' Using common sense along with a professional approach that is broken down into step-by-step guidelines, Teresa shows parents how to assess individual assignments and whole courses with confidence." Mary Schofield, author of The High School Handbook "I am so grateful for Teresa taking the mystery and complexity out of evaluations and giving such simple, but concise guidelines- a compass for evaluation." Susie Gering, homeschool Mom "As the homeschool movement matures there is a growing need for 'how to' books based on inspired pedagogy and sound educational philosophy. Teresa Moon's Evaluating for Excellence fits the bill. Every parent, teacher and student- homeschooled or otherwise- will find this book useful." James Stobaugh, author of The SAT & College Preparation Course for the Christian Student
